Short film analysis 1

The bear

Bear, by Nash Edgerton is a very intriguing short film that is very cleverly made. It has 2 massive plot twists which are both very surprising to the viewer and completely unexpected.
The beginning of the short film opens with a quote from Jack's ex girlfriend saying that he 'takes things one step too far', this leaves a bad feeling for the viewers as it feels like something will happen.

The story is set around a couple who both seem unusually frustrated with each other. The girl wakes up and gets dressed without both of them saying a word to one another. It is a very awkward setting as it is the girl's birthday yet the man doesn't say anything to her, completely ignoring her however it was all for an act to surprise her. As she leaves her house you can clearly tell she is distressed as she looks at him badly whilst he lazily lies on the sofa acting oblivious. As soon as she leaves, the man changes act and quickly organises his costume and jumps into his car where he drives onto his base on the cliff. He sets up a picnic for her as well as a banner that reads ''happy birthday'' and changes into his realistic bear costume.
When she cycles into his corner he dramatically surprises her in the costume which gives her a massive fright leading her to fall of the cliff with her bike. The man is horrified and runs down the cliff to help his girlfriend. She luckily survived however was quite injured. She's calling him stupid and can barely even mutter a word but the man is so relieved that she is alright and he is joking around with her. He puts back on the costume acting like a bear to make her laugh and feel better, which works for a bit until suddenly an unexpected plot twist happens, the man is shot to death by strangers who think the bear is attacking the girl. Blood splatters all over the her face and her happy face turns into distraught as her boyfriend's lifeless body falls onto hers.

The equilibrium is the beginning when the couple are annoyed with each other however both alive. The significant event is when she falls off the cliff from that shock and we don't know whether she is dead or not. The disequilibrium is the man trying to get forgiveness and comfort his injured girlfriend, the climes is when the man gets shot. The new equilibrium is the boyfriend dead and the girl is injured and alone. I very much liked this film because it's plot twists were so unexpected and cleverly made.
